TANIS Woodland has been fixture at the University of Manitoba for 20 years, and for most of that time she's used a guide dog for the blind to navigate her way around the Fort Garry campus.
People of all ages are drawn to her guide dogs, Woodland said, adding however that most people aren't aware that guide dogs are working dogs and the attention the animal attracts can lessen the animal's concentration and compromise her safety.
"Being a blind person, I'm used to falling down," Woodland, 38, told a small group of students attending her seminar, All You Wanted to Know About Guide Dogs But Were Afraid To Ask.
