Article: Highlands Might Not Get Ziegenfelder's Ice Cream

WHEELING - A chance to diversify occupational opportunities at The Highlands may soon be lost if Wheeling City Council grants the request of Ziegenfelder's Ice Cream Inc.'s ownership.

Ziegenfelder's, best known for its production of frozen ice pops, filed a lane abandonment request for a portion of Lane 15 that would allow the company to expand onto a lot that once hosted the Welty automobile dealership. Ziegenfelder's has operated in Wheeling for more than 140 years.

Although company officials purchased five acres of land from Ohio County nearly two years ago, the transaction will be reversed, according to Ohio County Commission President David Sims.
