Article: Climate rather than Homo sapiens responsible for Neanderthals' extinction

London, Feb 19 -- For long it has been believed that modern humans or Homo sapiens were a major contributor to the extinction of Neanderthals some 28,000 years ago.

But now, anthropologists may finally have the answer as to what caused their disappearance.

While it is certain that the Neanderthal population took a nosedive across Europe with the arrival of modern humans some 32,000 years ago, but they still managed to hang on for at least 4000 more years, before becoming finally extinct.
