Article: New pharmacy school slated for North Carolina

Thanks to the pharmacist shortage, North Carolina will be getting its third pharmacy school when Wingate University opens its halls of ivy to the first class in the fall of 2003.

Located near Charlotte on a 390acre campus, the 106-year-old private liberal arts university plans to offer the entry-level Pharm.D. The fouryear program will require two years of pre-pharmacy classes. Each entering class will have 60 students, for a total 240 enrollees. The cost of the pharmacy school will be $1 million for start-up costs and $5 million for a new building. The annual operating budget is pegged at $5 million.
