Guwahati, Feb. 03 -- The judiciary is one of the most vital institutions upon which rests the noble edifice of democracy and rule of law. It is the judiciary that is entrusted with the task of keeping every organ of the State within the limits of the power conferred upon it by the Constitution and the laws and thereby making the rule of law meaningful and effective. The judiciary in a democratic polity stands as a bulwark against abuse or misuse or excess of power on the part of the executive and protects the citizens against governmental lawlessness.
