Article: House, in tie vote, declines to impose tip credit on servers

HELENA - The House refused on a tie vote Wednesday to change the minimum-wage law that Montana voters overwhelmingly approved last fall.

After two legislators recounted their experiences as waitresses, the House deadlocked on a bill that would have frozen at $6.25 an hour the state minimum wage paid to restaurant servers and other tipped employees. These workers would have been made ineligible for future automatic cost-of-living raises provided in the voter-passed law.
