Article: Bachelor's Degree Awards to African Americans Reach an All-Time High

After steady and uninterrupted progress over the past two decades, the number of blacks earning bachelor's degrees reached an all-time high in 2005. Furthermore, the percentage of all bachelor's degrees won by blacks increased slightly to 8.9 percent.

The importance of bachelor's degree attainment for African Americans cannot be overemphasized. JBHE's data shows unequivocally that blacks with a four-year college degree have incomes that are 95 percent of the incomes of whites with a bachelor's degree.
