Australian Senator Gary Humphries (Liberal-Australian Capital Territory) issued the following news release:

Federal Labor's plan to remove staggered school holidays could cost jobs in the local tourism industry and increase the road toll, ACT Liberal Sen. Gary Humphries said today.

The tourism industry relies on staggered school holidays to meet the demand of families at school holiday time. For example, the next ACT school holiday runs from 16-27 April while the next NSW school holiday runs from 6-20 April.

The Shadow Minister for Education, Stephen Smith, wants to abolish staggered holidays, meaning more families will go on holidays at the same time.
