SCHOOL NURSES
School nurses are the 'Cinderellas' of nursing who are discriminated against on pay, according to a new report from the CPHVA.
And the Association has accused some NHS trusts of using 'wheezes' to get out of upgrading pay, such as claiming that the clinical grading structure is out of date or that some school nurses work term-time only. This has been cost-cutting by stealth, says the CPHVA.
Meanwhile, backing for school nurses has come from the National Federation of Women's Institutes. In a postal survey of 5000 members, 33 per cent agreed strongly that every school should have a full-time school nurse, with another 48 per cent also agreeing to the statement.
