The government of United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence's Royal Navy issued the following news release:

The Aberdeen Universities Royal Navy Unit (URNU) is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year. In 1967 the Granite City was chosen as the first location for a pilot project that proved so successful the Aberdeen experience effectively launched 13 sister units at universities and colleges across the UK.

Originally formed to attract students into the Royal Navy, today the Aberdeen URNU is now designed to provide students with a fun extra curricular activity that provides them with real transferable skills, no matter their post university career choice.
