Center Lanes, a downtown bowling mecca for more than 50 years, will close on May 1.

Dennis and Karen Boggio, said the decision to close came somewhat easily. After decades in the business, they are ready for some time off. The most consecutive days the husband and wife team has had off is four and they count two days in a row - or a rare weekend away - as a vacation.

While leagues play at the facility on North 30th Street, Sept. 1 through May 1, Boggio said he gets one day off: Christmas.

"And then I'm down here to do socks," he said with a laugh. "Santa Claus has to come."
