Article: ASSEMBLYMAN GIANARIS REVEALS CON ED SPENT $581,000 ON POST-BLACKOUT P.R. CAMPAIGN WHILE STIFFING BUSINESSES

Assemblyman Michael Gianaris, D-Astoria (36th District), issued the following press release:

An investigation by Assemblyman Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) revealed that Con Edison spent $581,000 on a western Queens advertising campaign in the 4 months following the summer 2006 blackout, while continuing to deny local businesses full reimbursement for damage caused by the power outage.

Many local businesses closed in the months after the blackout because their damages were far greater than the $7,000 offered by the company. In the wake of this discovery, Assemblyman Gianaris renewed his call on Con Ed management to fully reimburse affected businesses.
