Rep. Jerry F. Costello, D-Ill. (12th CD), issued the following press release:
Legislation introduced by Reps. Jerry Costello (D-IL) and John Shimkus (R-IL) that would designate a 17-county area of Southern Illinois a National Heritage Area was part of a recent hearing held by the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, part of the Natural Resources Committee. Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) Associate Professor Robert Swenson testified before the Subcommittee regarding the bill, H.R. 929, the Land Between the Rivers Southern Illinois National Heritage Area Act of 2007. SIUC would manage the heritage area if approved.
