Article: TUALATIN POLICE TO USE NON-TRADITIONAL METHODS TO INCREASE SEAT BELT USAGE

The city of Tualatin issued the following news release:

With an overall compliance rate of above 95%, Tualatin Police are targeting the less than 5% that do not buckle up. Statistics have shown that people are less likely to buckle up after dark, which is when the majority of serious or fatal crashes occur. In order to increase the overall compliance rate, Tualatin Police used a non-traditional plan together with an emphasis on nighttime seat belt enforcement.

The nighttime patrol took place on February 15th, 2007, during the evening rush hour, from 5:30PM to 8:30PM, at the intersection of SW Tualatin Rd. and SW Boones Ferry Rd. in Tualatin.
