Article: Rep. Thompson Introduces Secure Handling of Ammonium Nitrate Act

WASHINGTON, March 30 -- Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, D-Mississippi, has introduced the Secure Handling of Ammonium Nitrate Act of 2007 (H.R. 1680), legislation that would "authorize the Secretary of Homeland Security to regulate the sale of ammonium nitrate to prevent and deter the acquisition of ammonium nitrate by terrorists."

The bill, introduced on March 26, was co-sponsored by Reps. Pete King, R-New York; Jim Langevin, D-Rhode Island; Michael McCaul, D-Texas; Bob Etheridge, D-North Carolina; Charlie Dent, R-Pennsylvania; Loretta Sanchez, D-California; and Sheila Jackson-Lee, D-Texas. It was referred to the House Homeland Security Committee.
