The University of Alabama at Birmingham issued the following news release:

WHAT: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health is kicking off its National Public Health Week celebration by helping people prepare their pets for a disaster by getting them micro-chipped. Local veterinarians will be on hand at to insert a microchip under the skin of dogs and cats so that in the event they are lost or displaced by a disaster, the pet can be scanned and find its way home. Cost is $20 per pet. The event is co-sponsored by the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
