Article: ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIBERTY DAY KICKS OFF

The Montana Secretary of State issued the following news release:

In a ceremony organized by Secretary of State Brad Johnson, students from all around Montana packed the Capitol Rotunda in Helena today to kick off the annual celebration of Liberty Day. The ceremony took place on Friday, March 30, from noon to 1:00 p.m.

Johnson said, "Passing on the lessons of liberty is an important duty of my generation to the next. Liberty day does that."

Liberty Day began in 1996 as a Lion's Club program in Denver Colorado to improve the teaching of civics in schools. Today the program has spread across the country. Rather than a holiday, for students to be out of school, liberty day is intended always ...
