The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued the following news release:

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that it is calling an emergency meeting of the Natural Resources Board on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 to address the potential spread of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) to fish in Wisconsin's inland waters.

"VHS is one of the most serious threats that we've seen to Wisconsin's fisheries and our $2.3 billion fishing industry," said DNR Secretary Scott Hassett. "This disease has been responsible for major fish kills in the lower Great Lakes, it's probably already in Lake Michigan, and it could be in Lake Superior and the Mississippi River drainage basin soon. ...
