Article: DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PROPOSES FINAL REMEDY FOR SOIL AND SEDIMENT CONTAMINATION AT FORMER NICHOLS BOAT WORKS SITE IN HOOD RIVER

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued the following news release:

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is proposing approval of a final remedy regarding soil and sediment contamination at the former Nichols Boat Works (Nichols) site on the Columbia River waterfront in Hood River.

The remedy, based on a zoning change, proposed development plans, and residual human health and ecological risk assessments confirming that the site does not currently pose any unacceptable risks, includes a contingency plan will be developed to address possible exposure of deeper sediments left beneath a clean layer sediment by possible future dredging or shoreline development.
