Marshall University placed a strong emphasis on technology transfer with the establishment of its commercialization program in 2003 and plans for a research institute.
Marshall's first license agreement came in September 2005 with Vandalia Research Inc., according to Amy Anastasia, assistant director of the technology transfer office.
Founded in 2003 by two professors and two students from Marshall, Vandalia created the Mystery of Lyle and Louise line of forensic science education kits for high school and college classrooms.
But in 2005, the company licensed Marshall-generated technology to produce customized DNA ladders.
