Ray Green doesn't think of himself as a dinosaur, but he knows there are few like him left.

Green mans the Farmers Union Trading Co-op in Columbus, where he pumps gas, washes the windshield and even offers to check the oil or brake fluid.

"We're about the last one in captivity," he said grinning. "It surprises lots of people that we do this. Some of them look at you like 'What are you doing here?"

Reminiscent of yesteryear, a bell rings inside the Farmers Union whenever a customer drives over the air hose outside. When Green walks out, there's a good chance he'll know the driver by name, he'll know what grade of gas to pump and whether they check the oil, too.
