Article: DOT to Allow Mexican Trucks Into U.S. Under Pilot Program

EL PASO, Texas - Thirteen years after the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect with a provision opening truck traffic between the United States and Mexico, Transportation Secretary Mary Peters announced that Mexican trucks would be allowed for the first time to deliver to destinations inside the United States.

Since a 1982 moratorium, Mexican trucks have been limited to a border commercial zone, where freight is transferred to U.S. trucks.
