Article: Senators investigate impact of '98 budget request on the National Guard

On April 30, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense received testimony from the leadership of the National Guard Bureau and four state adjutants general on the impact of the president's fiscal year 1998 (FY 98) defense budget request for the National Guard. Considered a top priority for the NGAUS, along with maintaining National Guard force structure, additional funds are required in FY 98 if the National Guard is to maintain readiness, operations tempo and on-going modernization programs designed to support its federal and domestic missions.
