MANITOBANS living with inoperable pancreatic and liver cancers will soon have a better chance of survival thanks to a new non-invasive surgical machine that is the first of its kind in North America.
Premier Gary Doer announced the province will invest $7.5 million in the Siemens Artiste -- a non-invasive high-energy X-Ray that sends radiotherapy to precise parts of the body. The machine uses the same rays as the Gamma Knife, but uses adaptive radiation therapy to adjust the energy beam to match the size of the tumour.
