On the 12th of April 2002 the Madrid International Plan of Action and Political Declaration was adopted in the Capital City of Spain at the second World Assembly on Ageing of the United Nations, containing concrete promises to improve the situation of older persons worldwide, by putting age on the development agenda - both domestic and international - and recognizing the ability of older persons to contribute to their Society
