Article: Koirala for unification of Nepali Congress

NEW DELHI, India, May 15 -- Nepal's Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has found that unification of Nepali Congress (Democratic) with its parent party as the only antidote to fortify his political foundation.

Desperate to bail himself out of the political pressure from the red-brigade - Maoists and Unified Marxists and Leninists (UML) - Koirala felt that a patch up with his arch rival and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is the need of the hour. He has been reeling under political pressure from the Left parties, which are all out to declare Nepal as a "republic" immediately. The Maoists on Sunday have also registered a proposal for declaration of republic in the parliament.
