Article: Hubble finds ghostly ring of dark matter

Washington, May 16 -- Using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, a team of astronomers from the Johns Hopkins University have discovered a ghostly ring of dark matter that formed long ago during a titanic collision between two massive galaxy clusters.

According to the research team, the ring's discovery is among the strongest evidence yet that dark matter exists.

"This is the first time we have detected dark matter as having a unique structure that is different from both the gas and galaxies in the cluster," said team member M. James Jee of the Henry A. Rowland Department of Physics and Astronomy at The Johns Hopkins ...
