Article: ETHICS BILL GUTTED BY GOP

The Georgia Democratic Party issued the following news release:

At yesterday's meeting of the House Ethics Committee, Republicans gutted the ethics reform legislation, making it what some reform advocates called a "nothing bill." With the support of Speaker Glenn Richardson and the Republican leadership, and the acquiescence of Gov. Sonny Perdue, the Republican members of the committee passed out a bill that lacks any real reform. Gone is the provision that would allow the State Ethics Commission to investigate conflicts of interest. Gone is the $50 cap on gifts to legislators from special interest lobbyists. Gone is anything resembling ethics reform.
