An artist has to stand out from the crowd. Trying to be different is essential.

Gwen Stefani , who perfoms tonight at the PNC Bank Arts Center; Thursday at the Tweeter Center; and on May 27 at the Borgata Event Center, stood out from all the others with her start in the band No Doubt.

Back in 1987, Gwen Renee Stefani (her first name came from the 1968 novel "Airport" and her middle name from the Left Banke hit single "Walk Away Renee") was a platinum blonde girl lead singer who was trying to compete in the marketplace against Madonna, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Tiffany.
