Article: ESTONIA: PM ASSURES EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR ECONOMIC AND MONETARY AFFAIRS OF DESIRE TO JOIN EURO ZONE AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY

The government of Estonia issued the following news release:

Today, at the Stenbock House, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip met with the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia. In the course of the meeting, Ansip gave an overview of the current state of the Estonian economy and confirmed the government's wish to join the euro zone at the earliest opportunity.

"Unfortunately, the fulfilment of the necessary inflation criterion, which is a precondition to joining the euro zone, is largely out of our hands," said Ansip, pointing out Estonia's rapid economic growth and the resulting consumption activity.
