In 2006. the mineral industry remained a strong and diverse component of the Texas economy (Fig. 1) and increased from the previous year for all commodities. Annual job growth in natural resources and mining, reported by the Texas Labor Market Review, increased 6.9 percent from December 2005 through December 2006 and construction-job annual growth rate increased by 7.7 percent.
