WASHINGTON, June 4 -- Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, R-Ohio, has introduced the Ballast Water Management Act of 2007 (H.R. 2423), legislation that would "provide for the management and treatment of ballast water to prevent the introduction of nonindigenous aquatic species into coastal and inland waters of the U.S."

The bill, introduced on May 22, was co-sponsored by Reps. Richard H. Baker, R-Louisiana; Wayne T. Gilchrest, R-Maryland; Vernon J. Ehlers, R-Michigan; and Candice S. Miller, R-Michigan. It was referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
