Article: Irritant dermatitis prevalent in food industry

Study shows intervention can lead to important changes in workers' behaviors

New Orleans - A recent study conducted in Germany shows that employees in the food industry suffer more than the general population from thiuram (rubber) mix and formaldehyde allergens. A follow-up study showed that food industry workers who are trained in proper food handling and skincare have fewer skin problems, take less sick leave, and do not have to leave the profession as often due to severe contact dermatitis caused by these and other allergens.
