Article: CARGILL ENTERS BRAZIL'S SUGARCANE ETHANOL MARKET

With the purchase of a majority stake in a Brazilian ethanol distillery in

Sao Paulo, privately held Cargill, one of the world's largest grains

producers, now has a line into the world's largest producer of ethanol.

Cargill said Friday it has completed negotiations to own 63% of Central

Energetica Vale do Sapucai (Cevasa), a unit of Sao Paulo-based agricultural

firm Maubisa Agricola.

The Sao Paulo region of Brazil accounts for about 60% of the country's sugar

and ethanol output.

Wayzata, Minn.-based Cargill plans to invest 100 million Brazilian reals

($43.5 million) in the next two years to double sugarcane output at its newly

acquired ethanol mill, as well as install sugar ...
