BASF with global headquarters at Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Monsanto, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, announced jointly on March 21 the launching of a long-term joint research and development and commercialization collaboration in plant biotechnology that is to focus on the development of high-yielding crops and crops that show greater tolerance to adverse environmental conditions such as drought. The two companies are committed to providing a joint funding of $1.5 billion for the life of the collaboration of which $1.2 billion is to fund a dedicated pipeline of yield and stress tolerance traits for corn, soybeans, cotton, and canola.
