Article: Hyman Perlo, athlete and activist, dies at 83

Hyman Perlo, an executive for the Washington Bullets basketball franchise and a member of the Greater Washington DC Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, died April 26 at his home in Kensington. He was 83.

Born in Durham, N.C., Perlo came to the Washington area with his family in 1925. In his youth, he was recognized as one of the best athletes in the District public school system and recieved many local and regional honors. Upon graduation from Theodore Roosevelt High School, he received 50 athletic scholarships - and one scholastic scholarship.

He entered George Washington University in 1942, but soon enlisted in the Army, seeing action in Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. ...
