Article: COMPTROLLER SUSAN COMBS SAYS MONTHLY SALES TAX REVENUE RISES FOR STATE, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts issued the following news release:

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs today announced that the state collected $1.7 billion in sales tax revenue in May.

Combs sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $420 million in June local sales tax allocations, up 5.5 percent compared to June 2006.

"Growth in sales tax revenue remains healthy," Combs said. "Sales tax collections reflect the current healthy state of the Texas economy-notably the oil and gas, manufacturing and retail trade sectors."
