WASHINGTON, June 15 -- Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, has introduced a resolution (S.Res. 231) "recognizing the historical significance of Juneteenth Independence Day and expressing the sense of the Senate that history should be regarded as a means for understanding the past and solving the challenges of the future."
The resolution, introduced on June 12, was co-sponsored by Sens. Carl Levin, D-Michigan; Harry Reid, D-Nevada; Barack Obama, D-Illinois; Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan; and Sam Brownback, R-Kansas. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
