Resolve Conflicts Between Tax Credit, Section 8 Programs

Legislation reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that was passed in the House of Representatives on March 29, 2007, has prompted government officials and regulators to seek greater consistency between the tax credit and section 8 programs.

"Getting the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program, which is governed by the Internal Revenue Code and administered by the Treasury Department, to work seamlessly with HUD rules, which are applied at tax credits sites, may finally get Congressional attention," says Dave Cardwell, vice president of Capital Markets and Technology at National Multi Housing Coalition (NMHC).
