Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, has issued the following proclamation:
Trans-Alaska Pipeline 30th Anniversary
June 20, 2007, marks the 30th Anniversary of the startup of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, a milestone in Alaska's social, economic, and environmental history. It is the day oil began flowing through a world-class 800 mile pipeline from the oilfields on the arctic North Slope to the southcentral Alaska port of Valdez.
More than 70,000 construction workers built the line in record time. The lifetime of the North Slope oil fields was estimated to be 25 years, during which its maximum flow rate was projected to be as much as 2.1 million barrels of oil. Today, it has surpassed expectations, ...
