I'm not much for jazz drum solos - they're the jazz analogy to endless, narcissistic rock guitar solos - but I like the ones by Alvin Queen on his new CD, I Ain't Looking at You (Enja/Justin Time JENJ 3329-2).
Queen's a Bronx native who's lived in Switzerland for going on 30 years. Here, he works with trumpeter Terell Stafford, alto saxman Jesse Davis, Hammond B3 organist Mike LeDonne and the under-heard, brilliant guitarist Peter Bernstein.
