Article: Echinacea can halve risk of catching a common cold

London, June 25 -- A new study has found that taking the herbal remedy Echinacea can more than halve the risk of catching a common cold.

Researchers in the US found that using Echinacea decreased the chances of developing a cold by 58 percent and the period of colds by a day-and-a-half.

The results are published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal.

Experts believe that Echinacea, a collection of nine related plant species locally grown in North America, may work by improving the body's immune system.
