NEW DELHI, India, June 25 -- India's intelligence agencies need to be brought under parliamentary oversight, a retired army officer who served in the Research and Analysis Wing, external intelligence agency, has said.
"If the defence forces can be subject to statutory audit and parliamentary review, I do not see any reason why intelligence agencies should be exempted," Major General (retd) VK Singh has written in his book, "India's external intelligence - Secrets of Research and Analysis Wing". Singh told HT that the book focussed on his years at the RAW - from 2000 to 2004 - but the accountability principle was equally applicable for other outfits like the Intelligence Bureau as well.
