Article: Opponents Vow to Continue Fighting DOT's Mexican Truck Pilot Program

WASHINGTON - Congressional Democrats, flanked by advocacy and labor interest groups, said they would continue trying to block the Bush administration s efforts to allow deliveries by Mexican trucks in the United States.

They said the Transportation Department's plan to admit trucks from Mexico fell short of legal restrictions on cross-border trucking.

The Department of Transportation dismissed those concerns, asserting that Mexican trucks that are part of a pilot program to evaluate crossborder trucking would be held to higher standards than U.S. trucks.
