A wealth of major new medical projects that have opened or are planned could turn Madison County into a medical mecca. Health Management Associates (HMA), St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital and Baptist Hospital System (BHS) all have major projects in Madison County.

In April, HMA won an appeal of its certificate of need to relocate beds from the Madison County Medical Center in Canton to a new site close to the Nissan manufacturing plant. That development had been opposed by St. Dominic-Jackson and BHS.

Now St. Dominic-Jackson has received a certificate of need from the Mississippi Department of Health to relocate 50 licensed medical/surgical beds from the present facility on Lakeland ...
