Arlington National Cemetery, one of the most sacred and significant places in America, originated without fanfare in the spring of 1864 upon the burial of a young U.S. Army soldier on the seized estate of Gen. Robert E. Lee. In the ensuing years, more than 300,000 people have been interred there as the cemetery has grown to more than 600 acres. Patriots from all of our nation's wars-soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines-rest in honor in the beautiful landscape of Arlington.
