Indiana State Sen. Thomas K. Weatherwax, R-18th District, issued the following news release:

Property taxes would be outlawed-in fact made unconstitutional-under bills filed today by State Senator Tom Weatherwax (R-Logansport).

Other legislators are expected to be added to the list of more than a dozen co-authors and sponsors who want to permanently eliminate property taxes - a system they say is both antiquated and unfair.

"Property taxes are center stage this year at the Statehouse," said Weatherwax. "Lawmakers from both parties agree property taxes are out of control across Indiana. State figures show a 450 percent increase since 1981. Estimates predict property taxes may increase ...
