Bay County issued the following news release:
As of Monday, July 9, 2007, the burn ban formerly in effect for all of Bay County is hereby lifted. Bay County Manager Ed Smith provided written notice to the County Commission that the wildfire threat giving rise to an emergency ordinance regarding open burning no longer exists.
On May 15 the Bay County Commission implemented a countywide burn ban in an effort to protect life and property during a prolonged period of extreme drought and several wildfire events. The ordinance banned open burning and contributed significantly to diminishing the wildfire threat. So far this season, Bay County firefighters have responded to 18 large wildfires, ...
