The Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System issued the following statement:
Although I normally do not comment on personnel issues, the Des Moines Register recently reported that IPERS had fired two employees. The actions became public record when the two individuals appealed decisions denying unemployment compensation. Personnel records are confidential until submitted as evidence at an unemployment hearing, which is public.
I stand behind both disciplinary actions, which were unrelated to each other. IPERS already provided to the Des Moines Register copies of the documents we submitted at the appeal hearings, including a report of an analysis of one employee's computer ...
