San Diego State University issued the following press release:

Alex Smith is quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

San Diego State University and the Alex Smith Foundation, a non-profit organization to support foster youth started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, will kick off the SDSU Guardian Scholars Program on Thursday, June 28.

The event, which starts at 6 p.m. at The Ivy Hotel in downtown San Diego, will feature Antwone Fisher as guest of honor. Fisher, a well-known author and playwright, is a former foster child.
